Popular Cork festival cancelled due to coronavirus

Cork's Lifelong Learning Festival, due to take place this year, from March 29 to April 5, has been cancelled 'in the context of the evolving circumstances around Covid-19 virus'.

The formal event launch was due to take place tomorrow but was cancelled by organisers this morning.

The event, which encourages members of the public to embrace learning in all its forms regardless of age, interest or abilities, has taken place in Cork since 2004, and has proven hugely popular with Corkonians of all ages.

"Following latest expert advice, this year’s festival has been postponed and will be rescheduled to a later date," organisers said today. Please be assured that we will be in further communication regarding the status of this year’s festival."

The health and safety of all involved was the paramount reason for the decision, Festival Coordinator Siubhán McCarthy said.

“It is with a heavy heart that we need to postpone this year’s Cork Lifelong Learning Festival, however, the welfare of attendees, hosts and participants is our primary concern," she explained.

"We would like to take this opportunity to thank all our funders, sponsors, hosts and friends for their preparation, planning and support over the past few months.

"We look forward to working with you in the future".
