Owner charged over dog worrying livestock

Ownership of a dog which was worrying livestock was the charge brought against a woman at Cork District Court.

It was one of the two charges under the Control of Dogs Act brought against Áine Hennessy, aged 44, of 11 St. Carthage, Ringaskiddy.

“Dogs worrying livestock is a serious charge, you should consult with a solicitor,” Judge Olann Kelleher said in court yesterday.

Garda Brian Shanahan brought the two charges against the defendant today.

Judge Kelleher said he was concerned about the present position regarding the dogs if the case was adjourned.

Garda Shanahan said one of the dogs was deceased arising out of the alleged incident and the second dog was now under effective control.

No background details were given in court on the nature of the alleged offences which gave rise to the charges.

The judge put the case back until September 25 for the defendant to get a solicitor.

She is charged that on November 12, 2018, at Barnahealy, Ringaskiddy being the owner of a dog, she did permit the dog to be unaccompanied and not under effectual control, contrary to the Control of Dogs Act.

The second charge states that on the same date on November 12, 2018, she was the owner of a dog which worried livestock contrary to the Control of Dogs Act.
