Man who was beaten and set on fire in Mayfield is out of induced coma and has spoken to gardaí about the horrific attack

GARDAÍ have informally interviewed Keith Greaney in recent days as they investigate the brutal attack on him at his home in Dunard estate in Lotamore, Mayfield.

Mr Greaney, aged 23, was with his girlfriend, Nicole O'Leary, when three men broke into his home, dragged him from his bed, beat him with a car exhaust pipe and attacked him with a machete just before 4am.

The assailants then doused him in petrol, set him on fire and then smashed the windscreen of his car.

He has suffered life-changing injuries and had been in an induced coma following the attack on January 20.

Mr Greaney is now out of the induced coma and has spoken to gardaí about the incident.

The initial discussion with investigators was an informal one and gardaí are still waiting to take an official statement from him when his condition improves further.

Gardaí have spoken to three people in relation to the attack on the father-of-three, however, no charges have been brought forward.

It's believed the assailants left the scene in a black Ford Mondeo and Citroen Berlingo van which was later located by gardaí in the south of the city.

None of the attackers were masked.

Speaking last week, the family of Mr Greaney said they do not intend to retaliate and are simply looking for those responsible for the attack to be brought to justice.
