Kate gets party fit for a princess

A YOUNG Cork girl who needs a ventilator full time has been given a party fit for a princess by gardaí in Cobh.

Local girl Kate Flynn, who is three and a half years old, recently returned home from Our Lady’s Hospital for Sick Children after suddenly becoming ill at the start of this month.

The brave girl is on a ventilator full time and it is expected she will need it permanently.

Kate was born in June 2013 and had immediate breathing problems which kept her confined to hospital in Crumlin for 23 months.

On Monday, gardaí in Cobh held a party for her and two brothers, Adam and Alex, after bringing them to the local garda station in a squad car.

Her mother Lisa said: “It was absolutely amazing and I was overwhelmed by the kindness of it. The boys had a ball! Kate was tired but she also really enjoyed it.” She explained that Kate now spends most of her days in her cot, resting."

It was held as a fundraising campaign is gathering momentum to help the Flynn family either to alter their home or move to another house to ensure Kate’s needs are met.

Mum Lisa said the little girl will not be able to sleep in an upstairs room and her current room is not large enough for the ventilator, which has a humidifier and a large stand attached to it.

A fundraising page has been set up at https://www.gofundme.com/a-home-for-kate.
