Heroin syringes found discarded in Cork city housing estate

THREE syringes believed to have been used for heroin have been found in a residential area on the city's northside.

They were found on a footpath on Knocknaheeny Avenue in recent days.

A needle exchange outreach worker liaises with anyone who has concerns about drug litter and also works to direct heroin users into services including the needle exchange programme currently running in Cork city.

Last year, there were two incidents where children found syringes – one in Togher and one on Grattan Street.
And in another incident this year, a child found two wraps of heroin on a footpath in a Knocknaheeny housing estate.
The Echo published a photograph in recent months showing that heroin use is taking place in a phone box on Oliver Plunkett Street, across the street from the General Post Office.
