Ed’s here, fans here, let’s rock!

ED Sheeran touched down in Cork on a private jet to kick-start a weekend of ‘Ed mania’ that’s set to bring a €60 million boost to the local economy.

The global superstar landed at Cork Airport in an eight-seater Embraer Legacy private jet ahead of the first of three concerts at Páirc Uí Chaoimh tonight.

Sheeran visited Páirc Uí Chaoimh yesterday to familiarise himself with the stadium while final soundchecks were taking place this morning ahead of the long-awaited first gig.

More than 2,500 hotel rooms have been booked out across the city and restaurants and bars are doubling staff to deal with the expected demand.

One Italian fan, Giulia Hrvatin, flew into Cork this morning for a gig she will remember “for the rest of my life.”

“I always wanted to come to Ireland, but I never really had the chance, but this tour gave me the perfect excuse,” she said.

Local bar owner Ernest Cantillon said it was the hottest night out in Cork in a long time and everyone is getting involved.

“My mom is going to Ed Sheeran and she couldn’t even pick him out of a line-up! It is a big night and everyone wants to be a part of it.”

More than 3,600 people arrived at Cork Airport yesterday.

The Airport’s Head of Communication Kevin Cullinane said numbers were up on previous years and that it was a “safe bet” Sheeran was driving the increase.
