Crosshaven, Fountainstown to join red bus fare zone

THE National Transport Authority (NTA) has announced that the city's red zone will be extended even further to Crosshaven and Fountainstown.

Last month, it was announced that the NTA would include Carrigaline, Passage West, Monkstown, Ringaskiddy and Corm Airport in the city bus fare zone from December 1 but Crosshaven and Fountainstown were excluded in the NTA Report.

Following contact from Cork TD Michael McGrath (FF), the NTA has now included the two areas which share a service with Carrigaline.

It was reported last month that several bus routes in the Carrigaline/Passage West had been highlighted by local councillors as having capacity and reliability issues.

Locals have raised issues with the 220 that serves Ovens to Carrigaline; the 220X that serves Ovens to Fountainstown and the 223 which covers the city to Haulbowline.

Councillor Michael ‘Frick’ Murphy (SF) told the Ballincollig-Carrigaline Municipal District meeting last month that users of the 223 service have been left waiting when services are overstretched in the city.

Mr McGrath said he is liaising with Bus Éireann on the issue.

“I am very much aware of the capacity and reliability problems that are occurring all too regularly with our local bus service. I am raising these issues on an ongoing basis with Bus Éireann and I have been assured that service improvements are on the way. I will keep the pressure up on this front.,” he said.
