Covid-19 latest: one case confirmed in Cork hospital

The number of people with confirmed Covid-19 receiving hospital care around the country is rising, with the latest figures showing that last night, 33 people with Covid-19 were being treated in hospital, including one person in Cork.

It follows a significant period during which there were no confirmed cases of Covid-19 at hospitals in the city.

According to the latest HSE Operations Updates, one person with confirmed Covid-19 was admitted to Cork University Hospital (CUH) in recent days.

Last night, three people with suspected Covid-19 were also being cared for at CUH and at the Mercy University Hospital.

It comes as the latest data shows that 44 cases of Covid-19 had been reported in Cork in the 14 days up to August 28th, the sixth-highest figure nationally.

The figure is however significantly lower than in Dublin or Kildare where 655 and 334 cases were reported, respectively, in the same period.

A total of 147 cases were reported in Tipperary, 95 cases were reported in Limerick and 47 cases were reported in Wexford over the 14 days.

A total of 1,638 cases have now been reported in Cork since the beginning of the pandemic.

Nationally, 28,760 cases of Covid-19 have been reported since March while 1,777 Covid-19 related deaths have been confirmed.
