County Hall demands meeting with Garda Commissioner to address resources in Cork

A LETTER demanding a meeting with the Garda Commissioner Drew Harris and the incoming minister for justice is being sent by Cork County Council, who wish to discuss concerns about the resources given to policing in some areas of Cork.

It is the second request for a meeting. Independent Councillor Ben Dalton O’Sullivan, who called for the first invitation to be sent last September, said the first letter has not even been acknowledged.

Mr Dalton O’Sullivan noted that 11 new gardaí were deployed to Cork following the recent passing out ceremony, but pointed out that none were assigned to Cork South or West.

He said the county needs “extra resources, more gardaí and patrol cars and equipment, during the general election that was one of the biggest things that came up at the doors”.

The Carrigaline/Crosshaven councillor said in his own area, it is clear that more is needed.

“In a town of almost 20,000 people, we need more gardaí and a full-time Garda station,” he added.
