Cork mural honours stars of The Young Offenders

TRANSITION year students in Douglas have unveiled a new mural, dedicated to the Young Offender’s Connor and Jock.

Students from Regina Mundi and Douglas Community School spent their weekend preparing the wall art at the Mangela in Douglas, with help from their art teachers Annette Millard (Douglas Com) and Melissa Murphy (Regina Mundi).

When the Douglas Tidy Towns Committee asked the schools to create the piece of art, the students decided they wanted their wall to be "Cork-Orientated", according to Ms Murphy.

It wasn't long before they decided to dedicate the wall to the star's of the film, she added.

The mural has evened earned the stamp of approval from the film’s makers, with it’s official Facebook page sharing photos of the student’s work over the weekend.

The students are hopeful the film's stars Alex Murphy and Chris Walley, as well as director Peter Foott, will come to visit the student's work and autograph it, Ms Murphy said.

“They loved it,” Ms Murphy said.

“There was a fantastic atmosphere while we were getting it ready,” she added.

“Kids picked up brushes and everyone was helping and getting involved.”

The official opening of the Mangela takes place at 2:00 today.
