Cork fisherman dies in Donegal

THE town of Castletownbere is in shock following the death of a local fisherman in an accident.

The fisherman, John McCarthy from Rodeen in Castletownbere, was found in Killybegs harbour on Thursday morning.

He was a member of a crew from Castletownbere who had been fishing off the coats of Donegal for herrings.

A search was launched on Thursday morning and his body was recovered by the Killybegs Coastguard crew early on Thursday afternoon.

It is believed he fell into the water when going to board the fishing vessel.

Mr McCarthy, who was in his 50s, was a native of Bere Island and was married with children.

A post mortem examination has been carried out.
