Cork boatbuilders make a 2,500-mile delivery trip to Sardinia

CORK-based boatbuilder Safehaven Marine has delivered a new vessel to superyacht collector Jack Setton in Sardinia.

The company built an XSV20 vessel built for Mr Setton this week. He has named it ‘Safehaven’.

Managing director Frank Kowalski said the vessel has the nicest interior his Youghal-based business has ever created.

Mr Kowalski said: “Safehaven arrived in Sardinia on Sunday after a 2,500-mile voyage from Ireland. I joined the guys in Spain for the Mediterranean legs to Ibiza, Palma and on to Sardinia to hand her over to Jack. It was an amazing voyage, and so cool to finally see her in turquoise blue waters.”

In 2017, Mr Kowalski and his team achieved a world-first feat by circumnavigating the country via Rockall — an uninhabited granite islet 467km west of Scotland — and travelled over 2,000km, encompassing a 1,000km run out to the North Atlantic. They did it in the €1m original Thunderchild XSV 17 boat, a 60kt high-speed interceptor. They plan to travel from Canada to Ireland in the fastest time possible this year in a new boat, Thunderchild II.
