Cork-based chefs pay tribute to the late Anthony Bourdain

CORK-based chefs have paid tribute to deceased celebrity chef Anthony Bourdain, who visited the city in 2006.

The 61-year-old was found dead in his hotel near Strasbourg in France where he was shooting for his popular CNN TV series 'Parts Unknown.'

The US-born chef visited the Ivory Tower restaurant, run by Seamus O'Connell, on Princes Street in 2006 for an edition of 'The Cook's Tour' on the Food Network.

Well-known Cork chef Kate Lawlor, formerly of Fenn's Quay and now of the Oyster Tavern, said she admired Mr Bourdain, whose 2000 book 'Kitchen Confidential' gave a unique insight into working behind-the-scenes in the food industry.

She said, "[It's a] very sad day. [He was] a man who spoke the truth about our industry and encouraged a change for the positive."

Takashi Miyazaki of Miyazaki and Ichigo Ichie simply shared a classic quote from Bourdain on Twitter.

“You learn a lot about someone when you share a meal together,” it read.

CNN said in a statement: "It is with extraordinary sadness we can confirm the death of our friend and colleague, Anthony Bourdain."

The network described Bourdain as a "unique storyteller."
