Cork applauds voluntary group after two missing teens found safe

FERMOY residents have expressed their gratitude to voluntary group, Cork City Missing Persons Search and Recovery after they helped find two missing youths.

The organisation was called in by Fermoy Gardaí to assist in the search for the two teenagers who became lost and disoriented in a woods in Fermoy.

The search was in conjunction with a number of emergency services including the Gardaí, Fermoy Fire Service, National Ambulance Service and Rescue 115, the all-weather Irish Coast Guard Helicopter.

In a Facebook Post published by Cork City Missing Persons Search and Recovery (CCMPSAR) they announced that the rescue mission was brought to a close late last night:

"Shortly before 1am Rescue 115 spotted two heat sources in a very dense and overgrown forest on the outskirts of Fermoy.

"Rescue 115 directed six volunteers from CCMPSAR to the casualties where we brought them to an awaiting ambulance."

Following the incident, CCMPSAR stated that they have seen a rise in the number of missing persons in recent times:

"Last night's search in the Fermoy area bring to 20 the total number of rescues made by CCMPSAR in the past seven months, by far our busiest year.

"All of which could not be made possible without inter-agency cooperation."

Hundreds of people have taken to social media to express their gratitude towards the "brilliant" volunteers.

One individual commended the group saying, "take a bow", whilst another stated: "Well done; credit to ye for what ye do to help people at such a worrying time."
