CUH asks public to avoid Emergency Department unless absolutely necessary

Cork University Hospital (CUH) has asked the public not to attend the Emergency Department if 'their needs are not urgent'.

In a statement, hospital management said CUH has been exceptionally busy in recent days.

"Hospital management has requested that, where appropriate, the public contact their GP in the first instance and explore all other options available to them before attending the Emergency Department if their needs are not urgent," a statement read.

"Patient care is paramount in CUH and this situation is being treated as a priority by hospital management who have taken steps to address this issue."

Hospital management also acknowledged the hard work and dedication of all staff during this very busy time.

The statement also highlighted other care options available to the public in Cork.
