COVID-19 latest: Cork has sixth lowest incidence rate of disease

Cork has the sixth lowest incidence rate of COVID-19 in the country, according to the latest data from the Health Protection Surveillance Centre (HPSC).

The latest report shows that the cumulative incidence rate of confirmed cases of COVID-19 per 100,000 population is 226.9 here.

Cavan has the highest cumulative incidence rate of confirmed cases per 100,000 population at 988.5 while the figure is lowest in Waterford at 123.1.

A total of 1,232 cases of COVID-19 had been reported in Cork up midnight on Saturday (May 9th), an increase of 25 cases on the previous day.

Nationally, 755 clusters or outbreaks of the disease have been reported, of which 137 were reported from the HSE South region which comprises Cork and Kerry.

HSE data meanwhile shows that last night 22 people with confirmed or suspected COVID-19 were receiving hospital care in Cork.

Fourteen of these patients were being treated at Cork University Hospital with eight patients being cared for at the Mercy.

The number of people receiving intensive care for suspected or confirmed COVID-19 yesterday decreased slightly to 87.

Fifty-three of these patients were ventilated.

In Cork, five people with suspected or confirmed COVID-19 were being treated at critical care units across CUH, the Mercy and the Bon Secours Hospital.

The latest national data meanwhile shows that 23,135 cases of COVID-19 have now been reported, and 1,467 people with the disease have died.

Around 78 per cent of people who have been diagnosed to date with COVID-19 have recovered.
