Boil water notice issued for Whitegate

A boil water notice has been issued for the Whitegate area by Irish Water on Sunday evening.

The notice was issued as the water is potentially unsafe due to an inadequate amount of disinfectant used at the plant.

The notice said, following consultation with the Health Service Executive, Irish Water and Cork County Council are issuing a Boil Water Notice with immediate effect to protect the health of consumers.

The notice is for all customers supplied by the Whitegate Regional Public Water Supply.

Water should be boiled for over a minute and then cooled for drinking, preparing food, brushing teeth and making ice.

The authorities stressed that water from a hot tap is not safe to drink. Water does not need to be boiled for baths, showers, water plants or flushing toilets.
