Body recovered from the River Lee

Gardaí at Anglesea Street have confirmed that a body has been recovered from the River Lee earlier this morning.

At approximately 10pm last night, emergency services were deployed to the scene at George's Quay amid reports of a woman in the river.

Units from Cork City Fire Brigade, An Garda Síochána, and the National Ambulance were called out after members of the public reported seeing a person in the water.

Crew members from Crosshaven Coast Guard were also alerted and made their way to the scene.

The search continued this morning and a body has been recovered.

In a statement issued by the Garda Press Office this afternoon they stated:

"This is being treated as a personal tragedy and as such no further information is available."
