Benny McCabe to open new pub in Ballincollig

ONE of Cork's most successful publicans, Benny McCabe is to open a new establishment in Ballincollig next month.

ARTY's bar which opens in mid-October will serve Ballincollig's 20,000 residents, occupying the space that was previously Sam's bar.

The announcement was made in a Facebook post and stated that ARTY'S will serve a wide selection of beverages:

"We will be an honest pub serving award-winning beer by Rising Sons Brewery and others. We will have a colossal gin selection and a whiskey selection worthy of a king."

The pub will also permit well-behaved dogs, joking:

"The odd child or dog will be allowed subject to owners supervision."

Live music will feature prominently in the new bar, although lovers of house and techno may be disappointed:

"We promise never to play techno, banging house or any musical scutter but will provide accomplished musicians and DJs for your musical enjoyment."

The unique name is an abbreviation of artillery and it’s a show of respect to all that served down the years in the army in Ballincollig.

They are also asking members of the public who might have photographs of family members stationed in the barracks if the bar would be permitted to copy and hang these pictures.

ARTY'S is currently assembling a variety of military images, many of which have been supplied by the Ballincollig Historical Society.

The pub will also bring employment opportunities to the area, announcing that it is currently seeking bartenders:

"We are looking for a few good bartending all-rounders to join our crew, preferably thick-skinned, preference given to those least likely to take offense. Other than that all welcome to apply."

Interested applicants can send their CV to [email protected]

McCabe, who hails from a publican family has a significant monopoly of Cork pubs, including Crane Lane and Arthur Maynes, The Vicarstown Inn, The Oval, Mutton Lane, and the Sin É.
