Auditions for film to be shot in Cork

An Irish filmmaker will bring a taste of Tinseltown to Cork this coming March and April when he begins on-location filming of his new movie in the city.

The film, ‘The Broken Law of Attraction’, will follow a few days in the lives of two brothers who live on either side of the law - Garda Dave Connolly, and his brother Joe who has just been released from prison.

IFTA nominated director and producer Paddy Slattery is excited to begin filming on ‘The Broken Law of Attraction’, and hopes to include local Cork talent and businesses.

He says, “We’ll be casting seven roles in Cork. Our casting director, Georgia Simpson, will be holding castings at the Metropole hotel on Tuesday, February 21. Most of the film will be shot in and around Cork, and we want to use local talent as much as possible."

"Georgia is casting for seven featured extras, including three boys aged four, eight, and 12; older ladies to play neighbours, young women to play secretaries and dancers, and a few more too.”

Talking about casting for his debut feature film, Mr Slattery said “The casting process is very exciting because when we find the right actors, the characters literally jump off the page and come to life in front of our eyes. This is what makes filmmaking so special”.

Mr Slattery, who directs and writes his films from his motorised wheelchair, said that his “brain switched on when my body switched off” after an accident some years ago which left him quadriplegic.

“It’s been my ambition to direct a feature film, and I’m finally doing that. It’s a big ambition to have anyway, but it will also give me a chance to help change perceptions of disability too. I haven’t let it stop me, so you should not either.”

Casting auditions will be held on February 21 in the Ballroom at the Metropole Hotel on McCurtain Street, between 11am and 5.30pm, which childrens’ casting beginning at 3pm.
