Anna - No nerves ahead of Sunday's finale

NERVES won't be a factor in Anna Geary's performance this Sunday as she prepares to waltz her way to victory on Dancing With the Stars.

Despite earning 30 points for her dance in the semi-final, Anna stressed that it is now anybody's game. However, she refuses to let nerves hinder her performance ahead of the finals on Sunday.

"Of course you need that adrenaline to drive you on," she said.

"The important thing is to be able to channel those nerves in the right way so that it drives your performance. I'm often branded 'the competitive one' in media reports. I don't think being competitive is necessarily a bad thing. We're all competitive in a way. I think it sends a good message to young people; that if you work hard enough at something you can achieve anything."

Anna said her main priority for Sunday is to enjoy herself.

"I know that the final result is in the hands of the public. I can't control it so I've just had to let it go. If someone had told me a year ago that I would be doing the salsa I wouldn't have believed them. No matter what happens I'm extremely grateful for the privileged position I'm in."

The public show of support has been heartening for Anna.

"Someone will approach me while I'm out shopping and say that the judges were too hard on me. That's really nice and, more importantly, it lets me know that people are actually watching."

Anna and her dance partner Kai Widdrington hope their friendship will continue long after the finals.

She said, "We both have a very strong work ethic. We do have the odd disagreement but only because we're both so stubborn. When you are living out of each other's pockets like we have been there are normally two outcomes. You either can't get away from that person fast enough or you develop a friendship. Luckily with us, it's been the latter."

Anna was in Cork meeting the Lord Mayor Tony Fitzgerald and filming her VT ahead of the show on Sunday.

"It's great to have his support," she beamed.

"Cork people will always get behind each other."

Anna's journey to the finals hasn't been without its bumps along the way.

"Just like in any sport you do pick up injuries along the way but you just have to keep on going."

Celebrities left vying for the coveted glitterball trophy include Deirdre O'Kane and singer Jake Carter.
