THEY both have played Gaelic football all their lives — so it was only fitting that a marriage proposal was made after a puck around in a local park.
Yvonne Twomey and Jerry Buckley, who are both chartered accountants, and now live in Dublin, were married in their home county of Cork recently.
They are both from Donoughmore — but it wasn’t until their college days that they struck up a friendship.
“As we’re both from Donoughmore we’ve known each other for many years, even received confirmation together,” said Yvonne.
“We attended different primary and secondary schools but ended up in the same college course in UCC, Accounting. It wasn’t until the final year of college we became good friends which is how it all started.”
Yvonne said: “We are both big into GAA, when we were younger we both played Gaelic football with our local teams in Donoughmore and now play football with Ranelagh Gaels in Dublin.”
They got engaged on July 22, 2018. The bride explained: “On a Sunday evening we went to a local park, Bushy Park, for a puck around, afterwards we went for a stroll during which Jerry got down on one knee.”
They were married in Fota Island Resort on September 14 in a humanist ceremony, Teresa Graham was the celebrant.
The bride got her dress in The Bridal Lounge in Mullingar. Make-up was by Ruthanna Crowley and hair by Dawn from the Hairy Fairy salon. Jerry got his suit from Astons in Dublin.
The couple were surrounded by their loved ones on the day — Yvonne’s parents Jerry and Mary and brothers Robert and Alan and his girlfriend Siobhan, and Jerry’s parents, Dan and Noreen, his sister Helen, her husband William and Jerry’s nephew Daniel.
The bride’s parents both walked her down the aisle and all parents were involved in the lighting the unity candle ceremony.
Friends and family also helped with readings and reflections and the couple’s hand fasting ceremony.
The wedding reception continued in Fota Island Resort.
Blacktye provided music and the DJ.
Yvonne’s mam Mary baked the cake which was decorated by her bridesmaid Nicola and her mam Jo Nagle, who did a wonderful job.
Lavender & Lace, who are based in Donoughmore, were the florists.
Talaga Image were the videographers on the day.
Also doing an amazing job were photographers Laura and Benny.
