"A SLICE of heaven."

That was one of the judges' descriptions of a fabulous lighthouse cottage in Youghal, which made it through to the final in last night's episode of RTÉ TV show Home of the Year.

The stunning property is owned by Saoirse Fitzgerald and was one of three houses featured in the episode of the hit series.

All three judges lavished praise on the cottage with amazing sea views and gave it a huge score of 28 points out of 30, with designer Hugh Wallace giving it a maximum ten out of ten.

He said the cottage beside the lighthouse in the East Cork town was "absolutely beautiful", a "unique attraction" and an "exceptional restoration project".

Fellow judge, interior designer Deirdre Whelan said it was a "slice of heaven" and a house "for all seasons", while architect Peter Crowley said it was "an exceptional labour of love", particularly lavishing praise on its remarkable bathroom, boasting views of the sea and headland.

The Youghal cottage now goes through to the final of Home Of The Year, when it will be one of the favourites to win.
