THE fireworks display at a hot air balloon festival provided the perfect backdrop for a wedding proposal for this couple.
Anne Hill, from Leap, and Christopher Lyons, from Frankfield, Douglas, were wed on August 22 in Glandore Church.
The couple, who now live in Ballyregan, Kinsale, met back in college in CIT and have been together for seven years.
They moved to Bristol after college for work. On their last weekend in Bristol before moving back home to Cork, Chris proposed. They were at the annual Hot Air Balloon Fiesta which they went to every year.
“Chris proposed after the fireworks display!” said Anne.
They were married with a small crowd, due to Covid.
Anne said: “We were missing some very important people but all of the lovely messages and well wishes made up for it! We had a fabulous day! It was very intimate and so special. We were just delighted we got to go ahead.”
The bride sourced her dress in Amore Bridal in Youghal, while Chris got his suit in Fitzgeralds on Patrick Street. Make-up was done by a close friend, Trisha Harrington from Ballyhoura Beauty. Hair was by Debbie and Kelly Ann from Honeybee Hair and Beauty in Skibbereen.
The bridal party included Anne’s sister and three school friends. Chris’s two brothers, cousin and close friend were his groomsmen. Unfortunately, Chris’s close friend who was to be a groomsman couldn’t make it back to Cork as he is living in London, but sent a video speech.
The couple hosted the reception at Innishannon House Hotel.
“We had lovely weather on the day so people could sit out too. The gardens are beautiful there! It was very relaxed. We were lucky enough to have our speeches outside before the meal too! People were delighted to catch up with each other after a long few months,” said Anne.
The cake was by Rachel from Daisy Chain Cakes. Anne’s mom made a tier too. Chris is a serious Star Wars fan so a Millennium Falcon had crashed into the back of the cake.
As to the most memorable thing about the day?
For Anne, it was walking down the aisle with her dad.
“After the uncertainty of the few months beforehand, it was just perfect that it had finally arrived.”
Chris agreed on that special moment, he said: “It was her smile when I looked back.”
