THE Association of Fine Jewellers has said that they “stand ready to serve” whenever the government moves to reopen retail businesses after Covid-19.

The association represents 150 of the best small and large retail jewellers across the country. Many members are 2nd and 3rd generation families steeped in their local communities for decades.

The association aims to encourage their members to be specialist jewellers with the highest education, ethical and professional standards.

Newly elected President of the Association, Vivienne Ralph of Diamond and Gems Jewellers, said: “The selling of jewellery tends to be a very personal, individual, one-on-one experience.

“Unlike many other retail business sectors that risk bottlenecks with large numbers of customers at peak times retail jewellers tend to have much lower footfall due to the personalised nature of the business and of course, security considerations.

“Therefore, our sector will not have difficulties abiding by social distancing requirements.

“The Association Of Fine Jewellers and its membership are preparing their retail shops in order to ensure business continuity post Covid-19. In accordance with HSE guidelines we are implementing the safety measures required which will apply to our customers and staff equally and we ae confident this can be achieved quickly.

“We will not be found shirking in our responsibilities to the public during this pandemic and we are fully committed to playing our part in helping the country recover from the setbacks it has encountered in recent weeks.”
