WITH a showroom facelift planned for next year and exciting new cars coming on stream now and in the coming months, it is exciting times at Newmarket Motors Newmarket Motors was established in 1976 and has been going strong ever since.
Since 1985, the car dealers have been proud to represent Volkswagen in Munster, providing a wide range of quality vehicles for private motorists and business customers alike with a range of new and used vehicles.
DJ Browne, the Volkswagen Brand Manager with Newmarket Motors, is from Ballyclough, Mallow.
Mr Browne has worked for Newmarket Motors for 21 years in a range of roles including Sales Manager, Volkswagen Sales Specialist and Volkswagen Commercial Sales Specialist.
“I always had an interest in cars and the motor trade,” explained Mr Browne.
“So when I saw an advert in our local newspaper that Newmarket Motors was looking for a sales executive I applied for the position and, after a lengthy interview with Seán Browne and Annette Browne I was offered the job which I accepted.
“And the rest, as they say, is history,” he added.
“I’m working there for 21 years now.” Newmarket Motors currently boast 40 staff employed across areas such as sales, service, parts, valeting, accounting and administration.
“The majority of the staff have been working with the company for as long as I have,” said Mr Browne.
“It really is a great place to work.” Mr Browne added that, although there have been many great moments over the past 21 years, one stands out as the highlight.
“Working for the Volkswagen brand, one of the world’s largest car manufacturers would have to be the biggest highlight,” he said.
“Not only is Volkswagen the creator of the ‘people’s car’ but they have been pioneering the way for years with the iconic Beetle, the Golf, and now the fully electric, zero emissions, ID range.
“During my career I also specialised in Commercial Vehicle Sales, and in 2013 we were announced as the ‘Volkswagen Commercial Dealer of the Year’ which was an outstanding achievement for all the team at Newmarket Motors,” he added.
Earlier this year, the Covid-19 pandemic arrived in Ireland, impacting lives and businesses across the country.
Like tens of thousands of businesses across Cork and Ireland, staff at Newmarket Motors had to adapt to the new normal way of conducting business.
Mr Browne explained that the staff’s willingness and desire to adapt saw their online presence grow and kept the business going.
“When the initial news broke that the country was going into a national lockdown, we all had to adapt and get used to new ways of doing our jobs,” he said.
“Working remotely and working from home became the new normal.
“As showroom visits became non-existent, our online and telephone enquiries soared,” he added.
“WhatsApp video calls, Zoom calls and contactless deliveries became part of everyday life.” As lockdown restrictions eased, Newmarket Motors, like many other businesses breathed a sigh of relief as they reopened their doors for on the ground business and returned to some altered form of normality.
“When our doors opened again on May 18, we ensured that we fully met all Covid-19 safety guidelines to protect staff and customers,” said Mr Browne.
Looking to the future, the Mallow native said there are plenty of exciting things happening at Newmarket Motors at present, as well as future developments to look forward to in the motoring world.
“We have just launched Volkswagen’s all-new, fully electric vehicle, the ID.3 and we are eagerly awaiting the arrival of the ID.4 SUV in February 2021,” said Mr Browne.
“These fully electric models are the newest addition to the Volkswagen family and in the near future the full range will be electric and this will revolutionise transport and the motor industry as we know it, while also protecting our environment.
“We have also just taken delivery of the all-new Tiguan and the all-new Arteon, which are currently available to test drive,” he added.
“As well as that, Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles are launching the new Caddy 5 in February 2021.
“So, there are a lot of exciting new developments over the coming months.” As well as taking delivery of exciting new Volkswagen vehicles, there are also plans for the Newmarket showroom itself, which Mr Browne labelled as “exciting”.
“We have plans to give our Volkswagen showroom a face lift in 2021 and our service area will also be updated to cater for larger vehicles,” he said.
“Exciting times ahead for Newmarket Motors,” he concluded.
