Passage 1-11

White’s Cross 1-8

PASSAGE have booked their place in the semi-final of the Sports Turf Solutions Seandún Junior A Football Championship, where they will meet Douglas or St Vincent’s after they defeated White’s Cross at Ballinlough.

While Passage were on top for most of the game, White’s Cross failed to convert two goal scoring opportunities and a late goal for White’s Cross left three points between the sides at the finish.

Niall McCarthy pointed a free for Passage and this was followed by a point from play by Scott Coughlan. Conor Buckley replied with a pointed free for White’s Cross.

Both sides continued to trade points before Colin Sisk had his goal-bound shot deflected by Passage net minder Anthony Kidney at the expense of a 45 in the 19th minute.

Passage outscored White’s Cross by four points to one in the second quarter as they led 0-8 to 0-4 at the break.

Persistent fouling was proving to be costly for White’s Cross following the resumption as Niall McCarthy slotted over two unanswered frees.

Conor Buckley replied with a pointed free for White’s Cross before Passage took a grip on proceedings midway through the second half, as James Kind drilled home the game’s opening goal from the corner of the White’s Cross square.

Passage won possession from the White’s Cross kick-out but over-carrying was to deny them a second goal.

Killian Ryan was to be denied a goal for White’s Cross as Kidney pulled off a spectacular save and Passage worked the ball up the park for Scott Coughlan to score their only point of the final quarter.

White’s Cross seized the initiative as they had Passage pinned back in the closing stages. Brendan Murnane tagged on a point from play and this was followed by two further pointed frees by Conor Buckley, to leave six points between the sides.

Sean Kelly drilled home a goal for White’s Cross from the edge of the square with the game entering stoppage time.
